Unmasked: Kal Halberd

I came to Second Life in 2006, I heard a news report on Good Morning America and it really got me hooked on the idea of a virtual playground. Once I started making friends I really found a home here.

I’ve met a lot of people over the five years I have been a part of this world. Probably one of the people who had the biggest impact on my Second Life was Bart Chabrow. We were talking one day and he mentioned New Oa, which was called Beta Quadrant back then. I decided to give it a look and was blown away.

I was excited about meeting all of the people who enjoyed Green Lantern as much as me. But it wasn’t a cake walk getting into the Green Lantern Core. I submitted an application and didn’t make it through the first round. Then I applied and made it as an applicant a few months later. But I didn’t make it through to Rookies. I reapplied again, and didn’t make it. And with all the perseverance I could muster, I applied again, and made it through.

Red Lanterns #3 – Spoilers

We left Atrocitus as he was deciding whom he should bestow the gift of intelligence on, within his corps. After a brooding two previous issues, he has come to the realization that whatever he hopes to achieve with his group of rage filled maniacs, he will need help. The only question left, who will be raised to Atrocitus’ equal?

Without much surprise to anyone, Bleez is chosen to be Atrocitus’ second in command. He throws her into a lake of blood on the Red Lantern homeworld and watches her sink to the bottom. As she is falling down through the liquid hatred, he mind starts becoming more aware.

Bleez is slowly able to regain some control over her cognitive faculties. She finally regains all of her intelligence prior to becoming a Red Lantern, but with it, also her memories.

She is now able to remember the source of her rage and the events that led to her becoming the monster she is now. With this gift from Atrocitus, has come a new sort of curse. Bleez claims that she is too weak from the transformation to help lead the Red Lantern Corps, but Atrocitus decides to “help her” with this problem.

This is the last Green Lantern comic of volume 2. After issue 200 the title becomes Green Lantern Corps. Hal Jordan has just rejoined the Corps. It marked the 45 year anniversary of the first Green Lantern comic title. And it marked the announcement of a major decision by the Guardians.

Unmasked: Alex Drago

I should start by saying, I am a bit of an odd duck. I don’t fit your standard Green Lantern mold. But I have been a Green Lantern for years. I think I may be getting ahead of myself, let’s start from the first login.

I joined Second Life in 2004, it seemed like a giant box of communal legos that people could just keep rearranging until they made what they wanted, then tear it down and start again. It’s this great experiment, with an evolving tool-set and interesting people, that’s what really keeps my coming back with addictive fervor.

Green Lantern New Guardians #2 – Spoilers

When we left New Guardians last month, Kyle Rayner had just been approached by 6 other corps’ power rings. The rings informed him that he had been chosen to join their respective corps. Before he could react to this, members of the other corps arrived to seize the rings that they believed had been stolen.

We jump right into the action on this issue, most of the other corps start to attack Rayner, with the exception of Blue Lantern Saint Walker coming to his aid. They manage to fend off the attacks and escape to the upper atmosphere. Through a brief exchange with Saint Walker, we learn that the Orange Lantern ring is probably only there because it’s previous owner, Larfleeze, is dead. After deciding they probably can not handle this situation on their own, the two set a course for Oa to speak with Ganthet.

Flashback: Green Lantern Vol 2 #87

This issue starts off with a massive earthquake hitting the city. Guy Gardner, Sector 2814′s reserve Green Lantern, swoops in to save a young woman from a collapsing overpass only to be hit by a bus. Hal quickly gets Guy to the hospital only to find out Guy will be hospitalized for at least six months.

The Guardians notify Hal that they have selected a new backup for Sector 2814, John Stewart. Jordan finds Stewart in a confrontation with a police officer. The police officer is giving Stewart and some other men a difficult time about playing Dominoes in the street. After Stewart stands up, the police officer agrees to back down.

After a brief introduction and explanation of the Guardians decision to choose Stewart, Stewart responds “Sure, I’ll try your gig. It might be laughs being a super hero. My mama named me John Stewart, ‘Square John’ to my friends, although from now on, maybe you better call me ‘Black Lantern’.”

Batjeepster Power Ring Review

In the depths of a subterranean chamber within the planet Oa, a ferocious heat pours forth from rows of blast furnaces. Molten willpower is cast into ingots as dense as neutron stars. A lone Guardian hammers out the ingot to precise specifications, and casts a ring in pure green energy. The foundry seemed to breath a sign of relief as the arduous task was finished: Another Batjeepster Power Ring had been forged in a blaze of fire and technique, now ready to be wielded by a worthy Green Lantern.

Graduation October 2011

We are probably better known for our fashion deficient and very itchy costumes. We’ve constantly asked questions about everything from how psychic energy is translated into hard light constructs to how to put on our socks! But behind all of that chaos was a lot of discipline and drive from a group of very dedicated poozers. And now we are on the precipice of graduation, tomorrow at 6:30PM.

Unmasked: Kitfox

When I came to Second Life, less than a year ago, I was a little different than today. I was a lot more shy and reserved. Don’t get me wrong, I still am a little, but now I am almost always the first one to suggest “turning your voice on.” And I enjoy having a good chat.

You may be wondering, what brought a shy fox like me to a virtual world based on social interaction? I’m a furry in first life and second. After looking for furry themed games online, I stumbled paws first into Second Life.

Green Lantern Corps #2 – Spoilers

This week the threat dial is cranked up to 11 and the knob is ripped right off! We drop in on the Corps on a barren, waterless world and quickly find out something is amiss. The previous Green Lanterns of the sector have been brutally killed, ring fingers cut off, and placed on pikes as warnings to the rest of the corps. Strangely though, their rings were allowed to roam free and seek out replacements.
